Nighttime traffic delays may result from traffic signal shutdowns

Nighttime traffic delays at four Cornelius Pass Road intersections, south of U.S. 26, can be expected due to traffic signal shutdowns for installation of new traffic signals.

The new signals, part of the Cornelius Pass Road widening project, are expected to be installed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday (July 25) through Friday (July 29) and on Aug. 1. The anticipated order of the intersections is Evergreen Parkway, Ronler Drive, Cornell Road and the U.S. 26 eastbound ramp. Only one intersection will be worked on at a time. Flaggers will direct traffic through the impacted intersections.

The Cornelius Pass Road project will widen the roadway to three lanes in each direction between Cornell Road and U.S. 26. There will be a center median and dedicated turn lanes at several intersections, including U.S. 26. Other improvements include sidewalks on both sides of the road, a buffered bike lane on the west side, a separated two-way bike path on the east side and new street lighting. It is expected to be completed in late December.
