November 2 Open House Set for Aloha-Reedville Study and TV Highway Corridor Plan

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, October 26, 2011

Washington County, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the City of Hillsboro invite the community to an open house on Wednesday, November 2 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Aloha High School, 18550 SW Kinnaman Road in Aloha (map), to learn more about these recently launched projects. There will be short presentations at 4:30 and 6 p.m.

The Open House provides attendees an opportunity to:

• Learn more about the project backgrounds and what can be expected from these studies;

• Review what the project staff is learning about the community and help fill in the gaps; and

• Provide project staff with input regarding what is working in the community, where barriers to achieving the community’s vision exist, and how those barriers might be changed to opportunities.

“We need input from our residents to help us better understand the community’s dynamics, its aspirations, and how to achieve them,” said Andrew Singelakis, Washington County’s Director of Land Use and Transportation.

Adolph 'Val' Valfre, Jr., the County’s Director of Housing Services, added “We continue to look for ways to engage community members who do not typically participate in these processes—we want to hear from all voices within the community.”

Background Information:
The Aloha-Reedville Study and Livable Community Plan is a three-year effort being jointly undertaken by Washington County’s Department of Land Use and Transportation and Department of Housing Services. The study’s primary objectives are to understand the existing conditions within this mostly unincorporated area of Washington County and to develop strategies to enhance the community’s ability to attract investments and be better prepared to accommodate the jobs and housing that regional growth will bring. The TV Highway Corridor Plan is a separate effort being led by ODOT and the City of Hillsboro. This study focuses on the 8.5-mile corridor that connects the Beaverton and Hillsboro downtowns through the Aloha and Reedville communities. More than 40,000 cars per day currently share the highway with people using transit, walking and bicycling to destinations. This effort will look more specifically at traffic management, safety and key intersections, and will consider future options for the corridor.
