Oleson Road reopens with new bridge over Fanno Creek

Washington County's Department of Land Use & Transportation is pleased to announce that it has reopened Oleson Road at Fanno Creek (located south of Beaverton Hillsdale Highway), effective Thursday, March 26, 2015 following an eight month closure for bridge replacement work.

"We truly appreciate everyone's patience during the road closure," said Andrew Singelakis, the county's Director of Land Use and Transportation. "We also want to thank our partners at Metro for helping us secure the funding needed to advance the project. This new bridge is a much-needed improvement that will serve this community for many years to come, whether they travel through in a vehicle, cycling or walking."

While Oleson Road has been reopened to traffic, construction will continue on the road and bridge improvements for an additional two months. During remaining construction work, one travel lane in each direction will be available for motorists and bicyclists on Oleson Road. Pedestrians will have access to the new sidewalk on the east side of the roadway. Periodic daytime lane restrictions may be required while construction continues.

For the safety of workers and travelers in the construction zone, the speed limit between Dover Street and Beaverton Hillsdale Highway will be temporarily reduced to 25 mph through the end of May when the project is scheduled for completion.

Project Information

Fanno Creek periodically floods, which previously resulted in unanticipated road closures and substantial damage to the bridge on Oleson Road. This project replaced the existing bridge over Fanno Creek with a new structure built above the flood plain. Additional improvements will include bicycle lanes, sidewalks, street lighting, landscaping and storm drainage facilities.

This project is funded through a combination of the Federal Highway Bridge Program, the county's Road Capital Bridge Program, and the county's Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP).
