The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a freezing rain advisory for light icing from 4 a.m. to noon Wednesday, January 23. According to the advisory, “the main threat of freezing rain will be between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m., with the threat of freezing rain lasting until noon in areas closer to the Columbia River.”
Plan ahead and be alert for possible ice accumulations on roadways, bridges, overpasses and sidewalks Wednesday morning. If possible, consider taking transit, avoiding travel, or delaying travel until conditions improve. If you must drive, be ready to use chains if conditions are icy. Slow down, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you.
Crews have been treating county roadways in advance of the anticipated freezing rain. However, rain and/or very cold temperatures can reduce the effectiveness of the anti-icing chemicals. Crews are monitoring the weather closely and will be prepared to respond to icy conditions on county roads as needed.
