Washington County to Close 209th Avenue over Butternut Creek for the Summer

209th Avenue road closure
Media release

For Immediate Release: Friday, June 05, 2009

Sponsored by: Department of Land Use and Transportation

Washington County's Department of Land Use and Transportation must close SW 209th Avenue at Butternut Creek between Stoddard Drive and Parker Court from June 15 through September 4, 2009, to relocate utility lines and replace the bridge. Signs and a detour route are posted, directing motorists to use Tualatin Valley Highway (TV Hwy), 185th Avenue and Farmington Road. Local traffic will be allowed in the area; however, the bridge section will be closed to all traffic (see detour map).

This improvement project will remove the existing Butternut Creek culvert under 209th and replace it with a new bridge. Raised approximately five feet above the existing road elevation to correct frequent flooding problems, the new bridge will carry two through traffic lanes, a center left turn lane, bike lanes and sidewalks. This project is being funded by state gas taxes through the Washington County Road Fund.

For additional information or inquiries about the closure please contact Al Girard, Project Manager at 503-846-7851 or by e-mail at [email protected].

Washington County is committed to building and maintaining the best transportation system, ensuring the safety of all roadway users, and operating the county roadway system in a cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner.
