Washington County invites interested people to a "Meet the Contractor" Open House on Monday, July 13, 2009 from 5:00 to 7:30 pm at St Pius X's Community Center, 1280 NW Saltzman Rd, Cedar Mill, to view improvements that will be constructed on Saltzman between Cornell and Bauer Woods Drive.  The project will improve and widen Saltzman to three lanes (two travel lanes and a center turn lane) and include safety and intersection improvements, bike lanes and sidewalks.  Other enhancements include improved road geometry, street lighting, new water quality and storm drainage facilities and utility upgrades. The work is scheduled to begin in August.  It is paid for by county property taxes through the Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP 3B/3C).

Representatives from Northwest Earthmovers, Inc. (NEI), the project's general contractor, along with members of the project design team - county staff and David Evans and Associates consulting engineers - will be available to answer questions.  Information about the staging of the work, scheduled utility upgrades, potential construction-related impacts, lane restrictions and work hours will also be available.  For further information please contact Matthew Costigan, Senior Project Manager, 503-846-7800, [email protected], or access the project website www.deainc.com/saltzmanroad/.

Due to limited funding, the Saltzman project has been divided into two phases: this Phase 1 from Cornell Road to Bauer Woods Drive (south) and Phase 2 from Bauer Woods Drive to Thompson Road.  At this time only the final design, right-of-way acquisition and construction for Phase 1 have been funded.

Washington County is committed to building and maintaining the best transportation system, ensuring the safety of all roadway users, and operating the county roadway system in a cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner.
