Washington County Holding Open House for Bethany Boulevard Road Project

Long Planned Improvements on the Way!

Washington County's Department of Land Use and Transportation is holding an Open House to discuss proposed improvements to NW Bethany Boulevard, between NW Bronson Drive and West Union Road. The open house will be Tuesday, March 30, 2010, from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Oak Hills Elementary School, 2625 NW 153rd Avenue. Washington County, Capital Project Management staff, along with the private design engineer W&H Pacific will introduce the project to the public and solicit participation from local residents to join the Project Focus Group.

Adding capacity to NW Bethany Boulevard is part of the overall effort to improve north-south travel connections in Washington County. Bethany Boulevard is a two-lane roadway between residential areas north and south of the Highway 26. It lacks bike lanes and has limited intermittent sidewalks. The proposed improvements will widen the roadway to two lanes in each direction with a continuous center turn lane, which will reduce traffic congestion from Bronson to West Union. The project will improve safety and sight distance at all intersections and add continuous sidewalks and bike lanes on both sides of the road. Preliminary design work is in process. 

This $15 million project is being funded by county property taxes through the Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP), approved by voters in 1995. It is estimated to be completed in December 2012.
