Update Tuesday, August 24, 2010: Repairs are complete and the weight limit has been lifted on the Oleson Road bridge over Fanno Creek.

Washington County has imposed restrictive weight limits on the Oleson Road bridge over Fanno Creek just south of the Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway / Scholls Ferry Road intersection (map). These limits will not prohibit trucks from crossing the bridge. However, the limits will reduce the gross weight trucks can haul across it by about 15 percent.

According to 2009 traffic counts, over 10,000 vehicles a day use this section of Oleson Road. About 3 percent of the traffic is trucks. The alternate truck route is Scholls Ferry Road.

Recent inspections of the bridge identified rot in wooden components, a problem that is common on aging timber structures. Engineers were aware of problems with this fifty-year-old bridge and plan to make repairs this coming summer. Repairs must occur during the summertime "in water" window to meet environmental regulations. Once the interim repairs are completed, the weight restriction will be removed and trucks will once again be allowed to haul legal loads across the structure.

The long-term plan is to replace this functionally obsolete bridge as part of the Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway / Oleson Road / Scholls Ferry Road Intersection Realignment Project.
