Scott Young, Washington County Surveyor, has been named the 2018 Surveyor of the Year by the Oregon Association of County Engineers & Surveyors (OACES).
Young, who has been with the Survey Section of Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation (LUT) since 1990, was presented with the award at the 2018 OACES Fall Conference in October. During its regular meeting on Nov. 6, the Washington County Board of Commissioners (BOC) also recognized Young for the award.
"(Scott's) dedication to the surveying profession has carried him from his beginnings as summer help at Washington County to being one of the most respected county surveyors in Oregon today," said Bradley Cross, County Surveyor, Wasco and Hood River counties, and OACES board member. "He has also used his positive, no-nonsense attitude to identify and work productively with other agencies on realistic refinements to our practices."
The OACES Surveyor of the Year award is presented annually to surveyors who have distinguished themselves in service to OACES and/or the surveying profession.
"Scott is a valuable, long-time employee of LUT," said Andrew Singelakis, Director, LUT. "He is very deserving of both this award and the respect of his peers."
Young has been with the Washington County Survey Office for 27 years. He started in 1990 as a Survey Technician I. He was promoted multiple times throughout his tenure, and was named County Surveyor in 2017.
The Washington County Surveyor's Office oversees public land corners; partition, subdivision and condominium plats; survey records; street name approvals; and other surveying activities. The office is part of LUT's Engineering and Construction Services Division.
