Bonnie Hays Animal Shelter adoption FAQ:

When and where can I adopt?

We will be open to the public for adoptions from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, October 25 and Saturday, October 26.

Adoptions will be done on a first come, first served basis. Please come ready to take your new pet home, as we cannot hold animals for you to pick up later.

The Bonnie Hays Animal Shelter is located at 1901 SE 24th Avenue in Hillsboro, just off Tualatin Valley Highway by Lowe’s and Home Depot.

How much does it cost to adopt and what does that fee include?

Our adoption fees will be discounted by 75% during the Adopt ASAP event! With that discount, here is what it will cost to adopt a pet at Bonnie Hays on October 25 and 26:

  • Adult dogs: $43
  • Puppies: $62
  • Adult cats: $18
  • Kittens: $37

The dog adoption fee includes a one-year Washington County dog license.

All animals are spayed or neutered, as well as microchipped, prior to adoption.

Additionally, canines receive DA2PP and Bordetella vaccinations, dewormer and flea prevention. Felines receive the FVRCP vaccine, dewormer and flea prevention. Both adult dogs and cats also receive a rabies vaccine.

What do I need to bring with me to adopt?

Please bring identification with your current address and a way to pay the adoption fee (cash, check, Visa, Mastercard or Discover). You must be at least 18 years old to adopt.

Where can I see the animals that are available for adoption?

We appreciate you thinking ahead about what kind of pet might be right for your family! Because animals are constantly moving in and out of our shelter, you will need to visit us in person during the adoption event to learn more about the pets at our facility who are looking for new families.

When you arrive at the shelter on October 25 or 26, you’ll be able to view the profiles of adoptable pets. After selecting the pet you hope will be a match for you, a staff member will provide you with a private “meet and greet” with the animal. Helpful staff and volunteers will be there to guide you through the process and answer questions before, during, and after the meet and greet.
