Special hours during Fourth of July weekend

The Bonnie Hays Animal Shelter will be open on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for walk-in services. These services include stray dog intake, pet reunification and dog licensing.

Our shelter will be closed to the public on Sunday, July 5. We will reopen with our regular services on July 6.

If you find a stray pet while the shelter is closed, you can hold on to the pet and continue searching for its owner until we open, or you can contact Washington County non-emergency dispatch at 503-629-0111 to see if an officer is available to help.

Where to adopt a pet in Washington County

Reuniting stray pets with their families is our goal whenever possible. In cases where that isn’t possible, we most often work with partner organizations that have robust adoption programs to find homes for pets in need. For this reason, we don’t always offer pet adoptions at our shelter.

There may be times when we make animals available for adoption. Such as when a finder wishes to adopt a pet they brought to the shelter after no owner comes forward or when we participate in special adoption events.

If you are looking to adopt a pet, we recommend checking with other area shelters to see if they have animals available for adoption. You can also check out Petfinder or talk with friends or family who might know of an animal looking for a home.

Adding a new dog to your family? Be sure to license them!
