Horses Rescued from Neglect are Ready for Adoption

Washington County Animal Services & Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter usually finds homes for dogs and cats. Right now, the staff at the shelter is looking for homes for two horses.

"We hope we'll find the perfect adopter to make a happy ending for these two horses," says Animal Services Manager Deborah Wood.

The horses were impounded by Washington County Animal Services in February after the owners were cited for neglect. "The animals were both emaciated. One had a huge growth on its leg. They were a sad sight," says Wood.

After months of care from a kind foster "parent," the horses are healthy and strong. The veterinarians have declared them fit. "It's time for them to find a forever home," says Wood.

The horses are both ridable, but will need to go to an experienced rider. They can be adopted together or separately. The adoption fee is $250 per horse. All applicants will be screened, and the horses will only be placed with people whose skills and abilities are proper for the horses' needs. People who are interested in filling out an adoption application should talk to Louisa at the Bonnie Hays Small Animal Shelter. Her number is 503-846-7166.
