Washington County Disability, Aging and Veteran Services (DAVS) is hosting its second annual Elder Abuse Forum on Friday, October 23, from 1:30-4 p.m., at the Hillsboro Civic Center, 150 E. Main St.

The keynote address, "Identifying, investigating and prosecuting elder abuse cases: The challenge ahead," will be presented by Paul Greenwood, San Diego deputy district attorney.

Greenwood will draw upon his 19 years of prosecuting felony elder abuse cases to discuss common misconceptions that often hinder the successful prosecution of perpetrators who exploit seniors. He will discuss methods to overcome such misconceptions, offer practical advice on establishing an effective collaborative approach, and provide suggestions on how to meet the challenges ahead.

Additional guests include Ellen Klem with the Department of Justice, who will discuss financial scams and how to avoid them. Washington County Sheriff Pat Garrett will provide opening remarks. District Attorney Bob Hermann will close the event.

This free forum is appropriate for all community members who routinely come in contact with older adults, including caregivers, law enforcement, attorneys, social service providers and others.

RSVPs are requested. Call 503-846-3060.
