Major road repairs completed, ongoing despite weather, holidays

Despite adverse weather conditions and holiday scheduling, Washington County Land Use & Transportation crews have been able to complete two major road repairs on time.

Timber Road opened today (Dec. 31), though there will be some travel restrictions during daytime hours on Monday and Tuesday (Jan. 4 and 5) as crews complete paving and related work. The road collapsed on Dec. 7 after a culvert washed out during heavy rains.

The 229th Avenue bridge over Butternut Creek also opened today. The road was closed during daytime hours for replacement of deteriorating pile caps under the bridge. The need to replace the pile caps was identified in a recent ODOT annual inspection.

Beef Bend Road, closed since Dec. 22 due to a large sinkhole, is expected to open Monday (Jan. 4). Contractors excavated the site into the night on Wednesday (Dec. 30) and repairs to a broken culvert started today. If all goes as planned, work will be completed early next week.

Latest estimates indicate County road damage from recent storms is about $4 million. Crews are repairing damaged shoulders, drainage ditches, small slides, and potholes on County roads.
