National Public Works Week: The Power of Public Works

National Public Works Week 2018

May 20-26 was proclaimed National Public Works Week by the Washington County Board of Commissioners during the May 15 regular meeting.

To kick off National Public Works Week, the annual Public Works Fair will be 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. May 19 at the Beaverton City Park next to the Beaverton Farmers Market. Children can win prizes and take home educational materials. Adults will find brochures and well-informed public works staff to answer questions. 

National Public Works Week, sponsored by the America Public Works Association, is an opportunity to energize and educate the public on the importance of public works: planning, building, managing and operating at the heart of communities to improve everyday quality of life. The 2018 theme, "The Power of Public Works" emphasizes the impact of public works on modern civilization - from building and maintaining roads to removing snow and more. 

"The annual Public Works Fair is a community tradition that Washington County is proud to be a part of," said Andrew Singelakis, director, Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation (LUT). "We join our jurisdictional partners in celebrating the contribution our public works staffs make to create a safe, healthy and vibrant place to live and work."

The annual Public Works Fair is sponsored by LUT, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), the city of Beaverton Public Works Department, Clean Water Services, Tualatin Valley Water District and Willamette Water Supply Program. 

Washington County is committed to protecting the uses of the land and to building and maintaining a great transportation system, balancing care for the natural environment, economic development, safety and community livability.
