Urban Roads Committee Recommends Six Projects

Update (6/3/14)

At its March meeting, the Urban Road Maintenance District Advisory Committee heard an update on the Butner Road project. Staff recommended that the project move forward with a reduced scope. The committee voted unanimously in favor of proceeding with the portion of Butner Road from 126th Avenue to Huntington.

Update (2/5/14)

The safety improvement project planned for Butner Road from Cedar Hills to Murray has been canceled. As the design process progressed it became evident to engineers that environmental and drainage requirements will make the project cost prohibitive. The Urban Road Maintenance District Advisory Committee heard an update on the status of this and other safety improvement projects funded for 2013-2014 at its January meeting. Based on the project manager's report, the committee voted unanimously in favor of canceling the Butner project. Design of the other projects funded for 2013-2014 is continuing, with construction expected this summer. Funds allocated for the Butner project will be carried forward to future safety improvement projects.

At its December 19 meeting, the Urban Road Maintenance District Advisory Committee recommended six safety improvement projects for funding in fiscal year 2013-2014.

The projects recommended by the committee are:

• Pedestrian path on 92nd Avenue from Garden Home Road to Allen Boulevard (CPO 3)
• Pedestrian path on Scholls Ferry Road from Hamilton Street to Milepost 0.425 (CPO 3)
• Pedestrian path on McDaniel Road from Hardin Court to near Arnott Lane (CPO 1)
• Pedestrian path on Leahy Road from house #8310 to near school (CPO 1)
• Pedestrian path on Butner Road from Cedar Hills Boulevard to Murray Boulevard (CPO 1) - SCOPE REDUCED - See update above
  
• Pedestrian path on Laidlaw Road from .1 mile east of Lakeview Drive to 140th Avenue (CPO 7)

The committee selected from Minor Betterment Program candidates that were eligible for safety improvement funding through the Urban Road Maintenance District.

After review by Land Use and Transportation staff, the URMD Safety Improvement projects recommended for funding will be included in the 2013-2014 Annual Road Maintenance Program presented to the Board of Commissioners for approval in June.
