The shoulders on both sides of West Union Road are very narrow. We will widen the shoulders, between NW Helvetia and NW Cornelius Pass roads, by about 4 feet on each side of the road. In addition, we will also make pavement repairs and add an asphalt overlay.
West Union Road is a highly used route, with a 66.17% increase in traffic volume since 2010. Adding wider shoulders will improve safety for vehicles, farm equipment, bicycles and pedestrians. The new asphalt overlay will extend the life of the road.
We do not plan to close West Union during construction, but there will be lane closures. Expect delays.
