Juneteenth Holiday Closure

Washington County Animal Services and the Bonnie Hays Animal Shelter will be closed to the public on Wednesday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth.

Donate things we use in the shelter through our Amazon Wish List

Thank you for your interest in donating to our shelter!

Financial donations are generally the most helpful to us, but there are also some specific items we need. These items can be donated through our Amazon Wish List. We update this list as our needs change, but these items are guaranteed to be ones that we will use in our shelter. Wish List items will be delivered directly to us, but sometimes the donor information doesn't come through clearly (or we only have a name that we can't match up in our system), so if a receipt is important to you, just give us a call or send us an email.

Make a financial donation

Find out how to make a financial donation to support the animals on our donations page.

Things we cannot accept

Unfortunately, we receive many well-meaning donations of things that we cannot use. These items must be disposed of at our expense and this takes staff time and resources away from the animals. Things that we cannot accept include:

  • Pet food – Feeding the animals in our care a consistent diet that we purchase, rather than a variety of brands received though donations, leads to less stomach upset and allows us to only keep the amount we need on hand, preventing spoilage and waste. If you would like to help feed animals at our shelter, please consider making a financial donation through our website. We may also occasionally have specific food or treat items on our Amazon Wish List.

  • Homemade pet treats – We are certain they are delicious and made with love, but we are unable to accept homemade treats as they may spoil more quickly without preservatives and we have no way to verify the ingredients.

  • Pet or human medications – We are not able to accept any medications.

  • Pillows, blankets and other bedding (including pet beds). These items are too large for our kennels and do not wash well in our laundry machines.

  • Anything used, dirty, worn out, or in need of repair.

Other places to donate

If you have new and unopened food you would like to donate to animals in need, please consider donating to Fido Pet Food Bank. Call them at 503-655-FOOD (3663) or visit their website to learn about available options to drop off donations.

Used household and pet items in good condition can be donated to a local thrift store. If you want your goods to help animals, visit the website for the thrift store benefiting Cat Adoption Team.
