Spring Resource Fair on May 17
Join us on Sunday, May 17, from 1-3 p.m. at the Beaverton City Library for our resource fair for family caregivers. In celebration of Older Americans Month, we invite family and friend caregivers to connect with over 20 local resources, support services, and community partners dedicated to helping you care for your aging loved ones. You’ll have the opportunity to explore educational materials, meet experts, and discover programs designed to support you in caregiving. Whether you are just starting out as a family caregiver or have been providing care for many years, this event is for you. Please share our flyer (below)!
Presentations (30 minutes)
- Planning For the Next Steps in Caregiving, 1:30 p.m. Explore the questions and concerns many families have when considering additional support for their loved one. Learn about facility-based care options, including adult foster homes, assisted living and residential care facilities, and specialized memory care. Presented by Elaine Lawrence, program specialist with Disability, Aging and Veteran Services.
- In-Home Care Services, 2:15 p.m. Discover how to be paid as a caregiver for your loved one and also how to find and hire outside caregivers. Topics will include Medicaid long-term care benefits, Oregon Project Independence-Medicaid services, and using caregiving agencies and registries. Presented by Elaine Lawrence, program specialist with Disability, Aging and Veteran Services.
- From Wills to Guardianship: What Caregivers Need to Know, 3 p.m. Making informed decisions that support the person you are caring for — and your own needs — is an important aspect of caregiving. This presentation provides a starting point to understanding key legal tools such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advance directives, and the basics of guardianship and conservatorship. Presented by Gina Goddard, associate attorney with Oregon Elder Law.
Time for You: A Retreat for Family Caregivers
Join us on Wednesday, May 13, 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Beaverton City Library for a time to relax, reflect and rejuvenate. Lunch is provided. Space is limited, and registration is required. Call 971-997-6063 for more information.

This event is for unpaid family caregivers in Washington County caring for an older adult age 60+ or any age with a dementia-related diagnosis. Powerful Tools for Caregivers
Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a six-week course designed to help unpaid family and friend caregivers learn to care for themselves while caring for others. In this class you will learn to reduce stress, improve self-confidence, communicate more effectively and make tough decisions. Alzheimer's disease and dementia
Savvy Caregiver
This six-week series is for unpaid family and friend caregivers of those living with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. Through this course, you will:
- Gain a better understanding of Alzheimer’s and related dementias.
- Develop self-care strategies.
- Learn skills and strategies to successfully provide daily activities of ‘contented involvement’ for your family member living with dementia.
- Identify and engage family and other resources for care-related assistance and support.
